In this post, we review the Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition that was adapted to the U.S. market by Singapore Math, Inc.
There are 3 editions to Primary Mathematics – the U.S Edition, the Standards Edition, and the Common Core Edition. In this post, we will review Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition since this has been the more commonly used version among US homeschoolers.
Primary Mathematics U.S. Edition (Grades 1 – 6)

Primary Mathematics Textbook
This textbook is in dual-color (black and blue) as you can see in the thumbnails. The book is softcover. The layout is simple.
Primary Mathematics Workbook
The Primary Mathematics Workbooks are in black and white and there are 2 workbooks for each academic year. For example, in 4th Grade, there is a 4A and 4B workbook. The layout is pretty simple and a student would write in the workbooks. The workbooks are softcover and pretty lightweight so you can easily bring it on a road trip or to grandma’s house. The contents page lists down the main topic and then the exercise number. The contents page does not list down the subtopic of what the exercise corresponds to but one can refer to the actual content to see what it is.
Primary Mathematics Teacher’s Guide
Homeschooling families use either the Teacher’s Guide or the Home instructor’s Guide. Some just use the textbook and workbooks. The teacher’s guide is spiral-bound, softcover. The Teacher’s Guide is broken down into ‘Units’ and under each ‘Unit’, there are ‘Parts’. The Teacher’s Guide also contains the answer key to the textbook and workbook.
Each Unit in the Primary Mathematics Teacher’s Guide lists the objectives and makes reference to the textbook pages, workbook pages, and activities that correspond to each ‘Part’ in the ‘Unit’. It also states the number of recommended sessions to teach each ‘Part’.
Each ‘Part’ goes into more detail the objectives, materials needed, homework, and activities for that particular sub-topic.
Primary Mathematics Home Instructor’s Guide
The Home Instructor’s Guide is softcover. The Home Instructor’s Guide is broken down into ‘Units’ and under each ‘Unit’, there are ‘Parts’. The Home Instructor’s Guide also contains the answer key to the textbook and workbook.
The Home Instructor’s Guide contains a weekly schedule which can be helpful for homeschooling parents to plan their lessons. It lists the lesson and the corresponding pages to the textbook and workbooks.
Each ‘Part’ contains objectives, notes, suggested activities, corresponding textbook pages, and homework assignments. There is an instruction page to indicate what the symbols refer to.
